Slate Tiles

Slate has been quarried and used across the UK for centuries, particularly in Wales, Cornwall, Devon and Scotland, with further sources found in China, Brazil and India. It's an extremely hard, durable stone with a high abrasion rating, and its resistance to weathering and to everyday acidic contact from wine or vinegar has long made it a first choice for roofing as well as floors.

Grey and green tones are the most familiar across our range, sometimes shifting toward a plum-grey cast, while rarer rust-coloured slates appear further east, generally darker and more understated than a lighter limestone. It's a sustainable choice too, since waste from slate quarrying is commonly reused for roofing, flooring or crushed down as gravel.
