Rectangle Tiles

Rectangle Tiles

Rectangle is among the longest-established shapes in tile, and it covers an unusually wide span of uses. Walls, floors and outdoor paving all take the same basic proportions, just cut to a different scale for the job at hand.

Scale is really what separates a brick-shaped or metro tile from something sold as flagstone: smaller cuts suit a wall or floor indoors, larger ones are a common choice for paving, and each range keeps to a single size throughout.

Across any of those scales, the same format works as a brick bond, a vertical or horizontal stack, or a herringbone lay, and each arrangement gives the shape a distinctly different character. Cut to roughly twice its height in width, direction counts for as much as pattern here: run it one way through a room and the space elongates, or turn it the opposite way and that same room feels wider instead. One shape does two opposite jobs, purely through orientation.
