Set in magnificent grounds and enjoying elevated views across to St Brelade’s Bay, this elegant Jersey home was a site of special interest, built in 1928 in a style influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement. The current owner undertook a major refurbishment when she purchased the property and commissioned Riva Architects and interior designer Siân Parry Jones to work on the project. Siân brought her client to our showroom in Devizes early on in the project, and this approach paid dividends as we were able to discuss design concepts and ideas and identify any deliverability issues before starting.
Ca' Pietra sourced, supplied and installed in excess of 400 square metres in total including Wychwood limestone with a tumbled and etched finish, Tora Blue tumbled limestone, Mallory tumbled limestone and St Anne’s – a very special grey marble.
For the exterior where the Wychwood in a tumbled and etched finish was selected, Siân said ‘I chose the stone because it had a sympathy and grain that blended well with the exterior of the house. I loved that it was tumbled and etched.' Wychwood was used on the pathways and steps and as a coping stone on the walls. Special bespoke centrepieces that were created in the garden include a step water feature with a bronze lion’s head fountain cut into the Wychwood stone, and a black pool, complete with bronze statue, that is encircled by Wychwood and showcases floating Wychwood steps across the pool to highlight the depth. Ca' Pietra also helped to create the ‘rill’ – a narrow channel of water running down the middle of the garden steps.
