A Formal Introduction
When Fraser & Fraser, a leading, London-based interior design studio, were asked to reconfigure the ground floor of what had once been two houses, to create a large quite grand entrance hall, lead designer Chloe Cooke rose to the challenge.
“Our intention had always been to use small scale geometric tiles and the client was quite set on a classic, period aesthetic in black and white. The tiles were to run all the way to the rear garden doors and also into the boot room and downstairs loo - it was a large area to cover, around 60m2 in total. The more I got to know my client, the more I felt the scheme needed more warmth. I was actually on holiday in Greece when it occurred to me that we could still deliver the brief without the formality of lots of little perfect tiles. I phoned my client from the beach, we had a very excited discussion about limestone and the rest is history!”
Chloe selected a mix of Royal Mink and a lighter Bergamo Limestone in a classic chequerboard format. The tumbled edges make the scheme feel relaxed and inviting and the easy off-white and off-black goes effortlessly with everything.
“We used a lot of bold colours throughout the ground floor and the flooring provided us with a perfect backdrop. We can’t imagine the space any other way now and the flooring is definitely one of our favourite things about the whole renovation!” says Chloe.
