Hands up who loves nosying inside somebody else’s home? Consider both of our hands raised at this point. We do a whole load of it in our Round to Theirs series where we see Ca’ Pietra tiles out in the wild, and we’re about to do it right here, right now in the home of mega tastemaker Megan Robson of @kitandco. From our Farley limestone parquet tiles to the glossy Seaton Ceramic tiles, there’s a lot to love in her Scottish seaside home but boil it down to our top five and this is what you’d get…
1. WE LOVE: THE PATTERN CLASH
You’ve got your florals (Molly Mahon’s Marigold print appears plenty), your stripes, your strawbs (another Molly Mahon number – her strawberry design), your trailing greenery repeat (all eyes on Sanderson’s Hedara wallpaper in the utility) and pockets of gingham be it on cushions or below-counter curtains (such as Tori Murphy’s Woodhouse Check). The list. Goes. On.
They say two is company and three is a crowd but based on Megan’s number of contrasting patterns, it’s proof that anything more than three is a pattern party that we 100% want to be a part of.
2. WE LOVE: THE COLOURS
Megan is a brave woman. There aren’t many homes you walk into where the hallway is canary yellow – that takes guts but the results are completely gorgeous. She threads richly saturated colour throughout her entire family home with a calmness and confidence which is how colour is best enjoyed we reckon. There’s joyful grass green wooden panelling, upbeat pinks aside dustier ones, cherry reds and ocean blues galore, and it all goes together like a total decor dream. The key is she’s kept her flooring neutral so that it sits back and lets the walls go for it with gusto.
3. WE LOVE: THE STONE
We’ve tried to be modest by keeping our piece of the pie to point number three but it really is about time we sit down and talk stone. Megan fell hard for our Farley limestone tiles – a natural stone full of charming character and that ages in a way that we all hope we will, beautifully. She’s gone Farley flooring in her hallway, her open-plan living and dining area, in her kitchen and in her utility. It reigns supreme and it makes the whole of her home feel grounded and connected – note the clever border she’s done by stacking two Farley tiles in the opposite direction to give quiet sense of zoning between rooms. Head into her bathrooms and you’ll spot our Seaton Ceramic Tiles in Sea Cabbage and in that to-die-for blush bathroom she’s continued with our bestselling Marlborough terracotta parquet floor. We have died and gone to stone heaven.
4. WE LOVE: THE MATERIAL MIX
It’s not just colours and patterns that Megan is mixing up with materials and finishes too. You might think that anything goes in her home but that’s not so. Everything is a careful curation and a well-struck balance of each offsetting and enhancing the other. Eyes back to our tiles as a case in point here. There’s the rustic and matte nature of the Marlborough terracotta with the glossy goodness of ceramic Seaton and Maroc. Opposites really do attract and act as a foil to one another so in fact the character of each comes through all the stronger for it.
5. WE LOVE: THE DETAILS
In short, we love literally everything and would move in tomorrow if given the chance, but fundamentally it’s her detailed approach to design that we love the most. It applies to absolutely everything and Megan’s hawk-eye for the tiniest of touches deserves a standing ovation. From ruffled café curtains to wallpapered ceilings (I mean, bravo), this is home of colour, of texture, of joy and of play – all the things that makes house a home.
