Square Kitchen Tiles

A kitchen is one of the few rooms where a single square format often does double duty, covering the floor underfoot and stepping up the wall as a splashback behind the hob or counter. Behind the counter, an unbroken grid of squares feels like calm, practical backing for a busy worktop, and changing the grout tone against it is enough to shift the whole feel of that wall without changing the tile itself. On the floor, the same format can be laid straight, turned onto the diagonal, or set in a brick bond to mark out a cooking zone from a dining one, and even cut into triangles for a made to measure feature panel bordering a plainer run.

Size plays into the layout as much as pattern does: a larger square helps an open kitchen floor look like one continuous space, while a smaller one adds grid detail to a splashback or a run behind an island. It is a format that has stayed a kitchen staple precisely because it adapts so easily to both jobs.
