When Mehrai Design began work on the interiors of Maslow's new Kensington building, the aim was to create spaces that feel calm and welcoming. The studio takes a human-centred approach, with a focus on guest experience and wellbeing. The lobby, as the first space visitors see, needed a floor that made an impression.
The answer was a bespoke mosaic, designed together with the Mehrai team. It draws on our Zen Grand basket weave, a pattern we like for its steady, interlocking rhythm. For this project the design was scaled up, with larger pieces set within each tessera so the weave reads clearly underfoot.

Three stones give the design its character. Crema Nuova brings a soft, creamy light that warms the whole floor. Emperador runs through it in a rich brown, its natural movement adding depth. Only Black pulls the pattern together and frames the lighter tones, giving the floor a crisp, defined edge.

The finished result is a surface that feels both classic and contemporary. It is the kind of detail that rewards a closer look as people move through the space. For a building designed around connection and comfort, it is a fitting welcome.
We loved working with Mehrai Design on this one. Collaborations where a shared eye for craft meets a clear vision are always the most rewarding, and Maslow's Kensington is a lovely example of what that can produce.
