Threshers Barn is a masterful renovation that merges the character of an Oxfordshire farmhouse with the modernity of a barn conversion. Collaborating closely with the client, Taylor & Turner sought to create a cabinetry scheme that celebrates the property’s dual personality. The vision? A warm, inviting, and timeless space that reflects the nuances of its lofty proportions and architectural contrasts while meeting the demands of a busy, modern family. Drawing on inspiration from the Arts and Crafts movement and classic English design, the result is a home that feels both lived-in and elevated.
Every detail in Threshers Barn has been carefully considered, with bespoke cabinetry at its heart. The design speaks of craftsmanship and understated elegance, offering a harmonious blend of form and function.
In the kitchen, traditional in-frame cabinetry, hand-painted in Edward Bulmer’s Ethereal Blue, anchors the design. Glass-fronted wall cabinets are subtly set back to maintain balance and sightlines, while the island, framed by stop-chamfered newel posts, provides both a functional and visual centrepiece. Natural oak veneers and solid oak dovetail drawers add warmth, while bespoke inserts ensure practicality is never compromised.
A pair of bespoke oak dressers, finished with a specialist-applied French polish, flank a central window, drawing in light and creating a striking focal point. Cornice detailing and slim glazing bars add a refined touch, while a bespoke wine unit completes the ensemble with elegance.
The home bar, painted in Edward Bulmer’s Indigo, is a bold yet inviting feature. Reeded walnut detailing, antique mirror panels, and polished brass accents come together to create a sophisticated yet functional space. A walnut and brass library ladder adds charm and accessibility, ensuring every detail is both thoughtful and beautiful.
The scullery and laundry room carry through the traditional cabinetry with ventilation details, tongue-and-groove panelling, and practical full-height storage.
Throughout the home, Weltzner limestone flooring by Ca' Pietra anchors the design, adding texture and timeless appeal. Worktops in Italian Arabescato Vagli marble and Perrin & Rowe brass taps bring understated luxury to this elegant yet unpretentious family home.
