Clinging to the cliffs above a golden curve of the South Devon coast, Cliff House is a serene escape shaped by sea views, salty air, and a palette of enduring natural materials. Restored with sensitivity and purpose, this private home blends its historic soul with thoughtful modern touches, where the stone underfoot tells as much of a story as the view through every window.
The outside spaces are a highlight here. A series of terraced levels lead gently down the slope, all paved in Lacock Heritage Limestone, with bespoke copings and steps softening the edges. Its pale, honeyed tones sit effortlessly against the natural landscape, lending warmth to the walkways and echoing the light that rolls in off the sea.
Step indoors, and the mood shifts. Old Westminster Sandstone runs through the interior, its deeper, more grounded tone adding a quiet richness underfoot. With all the charm of reclaimed York stone, it brings texture and interest to the main living spaces, without overpowering them.
The kitchen, with views that stretch through to the terrace, is laid in Marlborough Terracotta - a classic Ca’ Pietra favourite. These soft, red clay tiles bring a gentle rustic feel that ties in with the colours outside, creating a relaxed and functional space.
Cliff House doesn’t shout for attention. Instead, it makes its mark in quieter ways with timeless materials, well-judged detail and a layout that lets the landscape lead. A house with soul, made to last.
"We had no hesitation in going back to Ca’ Pietra for our second major renovation. We completely trust their advice regarding each stone’s properties and how it will react to its environment over time. Our first renovation was 10 years ago and all their stone looks as good as the day it was laid, which we believe is a good indicator of quality. Both renovations were completely different in style in terms of the stone used, but this was not a problem as they have a wide range of products. Customer service is outstanding, and no query is too small. We are confident our latest renovation will also pass the test of time. We really wouldn’t go anywhere else."
