Measuring Your Space:
You'll Need:
✓ - A tape measure or laser measure
✓ - A notepad or digital device to store measurements
✓ - A spirit level (ensures precision)
✓ - A floor plan (if you have one already)
✓ - A camera or phone for reference images
✓ - A second pair of hands (always helpful!)
Guide:
These are the measurements that our team requires to design effectively:
Length of each wall:
Supply the measurement for each length of wall, as you work your way around the room. A room may seem like a simple square or rectangle, but never assume any measurements. Doing this could mean that our floor design won't fit your space properly.
Width of doorways:
Add the width of the doorways to the plan. Including architrave depth, if this is not allowed for within the adjacent wall measurements.
Doorway recesses:
Depending on the age of the property, the depth of wall leading to the doorways can differ. To ensure we allow for this, please clearly show the depth of the returns into each doorway.
Other architectural or fixed details:
Large newel posts, curved first steps on staircases, pillars, or built in furniture often encroach into the run of the floor. Add the dimensions of these, so your designer can look at the best way to run any borders or other design details around that feature.
Your Floor Plan:
To help us visualise your measurements, you should provide a sketch or architectural plan with the measurements marked up on it. If you have an architectural plan that already contains measurements, we strongly advise that you re-measure the space, as the final build will likely differ from the plan.
Reference Photos:
Submitting additional reference images to support your floor plan is very helpful, as it can be tricky to visualise a space from sketches or plans alone. Feel free to share any links to images of your space (via Google Photos, Google Drive, Dropbox, Pinterest Board etc.)
