We recently visited Vietnam to take a closer look at the factories where our wonderful encaustic tiles are produced. Watching an artisan produce each individual tile to such perfection reminded us just how special this method is. The key difference between encaustic tiles and ceramic tiles, is that they maintain their pattern and colour even as the tile wears down. That’s because the colouring is inlaid in to the body of encaustic tiles. Ceramic tiles on the other hand consist of a glaze that is ‘printed’ on the surface, which means the colouring and pattern will sooner or later start to wear away.
