5 Restaurants That Inspire Us

5 Restaurants That Inspire Us

At Ca’ Pietra we take our design inspiration from all sorts of places but restaurants, cafes and bars are always one of the best sources of ideas for colours, trends and tiles. We thought we’d share our five favourite eateries so you can see what we mean – and show how you can create a similar look in your own home.

For colour, fun and pure vibrancy, you can’t beat this Piada in the French city of Lyon, which sells Italian street food, typically a thin flatbread filled with ham, cheese, salad and pasata. The interior brings traditional and modern aesthetics together with artisan tiles, golden bar lamps and arched mirrors to enhance a sense of space. The pops of bold colour used for the wall tiles are tempered by the parquet wooden flooring and plenty of leafy plants and greenery, which is a feature in itself. We love the mix of pastel tiles, which have a mouth-watering ice-cream look interspersed with rich raspberry toppings.

Our Colour Pop ceramic collection is perfect for recreating this Mediterranean feel with gloss rectangular tiles in a choice of 35 different shades. Team with one of our wood-effect porcelains to add warmth and character, such as Chatham Porcelain Natural or Oak and lay in a herringbone style.

Part of the Copenhagen Food Collective, this stunning greenhouse eatery offers a Nordic menu with fresh vegetables and herbs accompanied by the finest meat. Its interior is raw, rustic and natural looking with an unfinished feel, perfectly on trend and in line with our ongoing love for organic style. We love how they have mixed rustic effects to create a laid-back look where the food takes centre stage.

Give your kitchen a lived-in look with one of our Harlow porcelain tiles. Choose from Beige, Gris or Perla and go for the larger format to add a sense of space in a smaller area. Team with unfinished plaster walls to really bring the urban vibe into your home.

Blending the best of Italian gastronomy and design, this exquisite Milan bistro reflects legendary gallerist Rossana Orlandi’s style with many of the furnishings and artworks sourced from her adjoining gallery. The bistro combines vintage pieces with products from up-and-coming designers as well as highly decorative tiles and textiles that work perfectly together to create a space that is highly unique. Check out the bar area clad in colourful patterned tiles, the terrazzo floor, the contrasting red and green colour scheme, the gold accents and the general mish mash of textures, tones and ideas. The outside space is also simply stunning with large stone flagstones forming the backdrop for a vibrant yet intimate courtyard filled with greenery, flowers and hanging lanterns.

We have lots of terrazzo tiles that will bring a taste of Milan into your kitchen. For colour, try Duomo or Pavia Encaustic or how about our Piazza porcelain collection with its authentic terrazzo look in everything from Geo Antricita and Graphite to Pearl and Gris designs. For a pop of pattern our Havana tile would help to recreate this restaurant’s colourful bar cladding.

It’s pink all the way inside this pizza eatery on London’s Kings’ Road. Behind the period timber façade lies a glorious bounty of pink Formia, designed by Child Studio. This durable and retro-style material is used for the walls, floors and ceilings in homage to the greasy spoons of 1950s Britain. The countertops and tables are teamed with mosaic tiled flooring, velvet upholstered banquettes and neon signs, all in varying shades of pink! The mainly vegan menu doesn’t disappoint either with pizzas made using a cauliflower base alongside delicious soups and salads.

For pink, pink and more pink, we have it all! Take a peek at our Brasserie Glass hexagon tiles in pink, our Camden ceramic in Candy, Colour Pop in Rosa Clara or Rosa Velho or Neapolitan porcelain in pink. And there’s plenty more too. Team with our Mono Hex porcelain in Blanc to balance out the look.

Built within the interior of a brick art installation in Mile City, China, this restaurant was created by Hong Kong architecture studio Cheng Chung Design and is, quite simply, a magnificently cavernous space filled with natural materials. The pared back interior allows the architecture to shine through and also function as an art gallery and exhibition area at the same time. The bare brickwork features impressive archways, curved steps and round openings carved into the roof.

We have plenty of natural products to inspire this look with terracotta, brick and terrazzo tiles perfect for period properties and new-builds that need added character. Take a look at our Brewhouse collection of porcelain in Brick, Parquet, Square and Rectangle designs or how about our popular Marlborough Terracotta Brick, Hexagon, Parquet or Picket for an interesting shape and layout design.
